To strengthen the infrastructure of sport in Tayside & Fife, to bring sustainable increases in participation and performance for our developing athletes.

The SportTayside & Fife Track & Field Championships took place on Sunday 17th September at Caird Park in Dundee. This was the first year this event has included Fife and it proved to be a great benefit as numbers were up and standards rose. As well as medals for the first three in each event, trophies were presented for those who broke Championship Best Performances. Such was the success of the athletes that the organisers ran out of trophies!!

A total of 38 Championship Best Performances (CBP) were broken on the day. However the records were not all down to the new “invaders” from Fife; Tayside’s finest raised their game to claim many of the records for themselves. Among the top performers were Mark Tough (Montrose/Pitreavie) who scored CBPs in the Under 17 Shot Putt, Discus and Hammer. Joining him with three records was Emma Dawson of Perth who claimed CBPs in the Under 13s 100m, 70m Hurdles and High Jump. Scoring two CBPs each were:
Jack Robb (Fife AC) – Under 11 100m & Long Jump
Lisa Glover (Fife AC) – Under 17 Shot Putt & Javelin
Chris Lavery (DHH) – Under 20 100m & 200m
Craig Robertson (Pitreavie) – Under 20 400mn & 800m
There was also a double record success for Ryan Stewart of Central Region who was competing as a guest. Ryan, who is the Scottish Under 15 Record Holder in the javelin, claimed a CBP in Dundee, and then added the record in the Hammer for good measure. Also competing as a guest was Myra Perkins of Falkirk Victoria who achieved a personal best in setting a record in the Under 15 Hammer; her throw was only 44cm’s short of the Scottish record.
With a full programme of track and field events for every age group from Under 11’s – senior athletes it was a successful day for all involved and showed the growing strength of athletics across Tayside & Fife.
