Gemma Fay has been employed as the Girls & Women’s Football Development
Officer for SportTayside & Fife for the past two and half years. As
this post works in conjunction with the Scottish Football Association East
Region Manager, the remit covers only the Tayside area. Gemma has been
actively involved in sport for 10 years as a player, volunteer and latterly
a professional. Her work has seen her instrumental in driving the Scottish
Football Association’s change to regionalisation across Tayside.
Gemma has been responsible for developing the infrastructure
of the sport locally and regionally through the creation and
implementation of a 3-year development plan for the sport that
ran from 2003-2006. She is now actively involved in the development of
a new SFA East Region plan for the future of the sport in Tayside.
Still an active player, Gemma is currently Scotland’s first choice Goalkeeper and has amassed 73 caps over her 8-year involvement in the senior national team. Outside of playing she has coached within local, regional and national programmes.
Role of the Girls & Women’s Football Development Officer
Within her role Gemma will continue to lead the development of girls & women’s football in Tayside with a key focus on Clubs, Coaches, Volunteers, School Programmes and Local and Regional Player Improvement Programmes. A strategic plan for Football as a whole will be produced by the SFA East Region Manager and Gemma will lead the implementation across the girls programme through working closely with SFA and local stakeholders to ensure that the infrastructure of the sport develops.
