Scottish Rugby's development team has completed its first test of taking rugby to the streets of Scotland at St Aiden’s school in Glasgow’s east-end. Utilising a portion of the £1.4million 'Cashback for Communities’ funding from the Scottish government, Scottish Rugby has created an easy to play and portable version of the game to engage with young people in their neighbourhoods. Young people aged between 10 and 19 have been taking part in the pilots geared towards having fun with rugby for the past eight weeks in key locations across Scotland.

As the RBS 6 Nations comes to an end Tayside and Fife can celebrate hosting Scotland in an unbeaten run of International matches. Four matches took place in the area throughout February and March with the Scotland U20 side kicking things off with a fantastic victory (18 – 17) over the much fancied Welsh, last years runners up, in McDiarmid Park Perth. This was followed up by a tight encounter again between the Scotland U20’s and their Italian counterparts with the Scotland boys coming good in the last few minutes of the match to seal a thrilling 14 – 10 victory on front of an ecstatic home ground at Dens Park in Dundee.

Congratulations to Bell Baxter High School from Cupar who, on Thursday 25th January, became the first state school to lift the Bell Lawrie Scottish Schools Cup since 1997. In a well-contested match watched by a crowd of 5465 at Murrayfield, the Fife school defeated Dollar Academy by 20 points to 8. Man of the Match was Bell Baxter fullback Peter Horne who was one of several stand-out players on both teams.
