The very first Scottish Swimming Volunteer Seminar was held in Perth on the 29th August. The topic this year was Child Protection due to the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Act and the upcoming changes in the disclosure process. Speakers from the Central Registered Body in Scotland and Children 1st Child Protection in Sport Unit delivered sessions on the PVG Act, and scenario testing respectively. Both sessions were given positive feedback, however the scenario testing session proved extremely useful as it looked at case studies regarding mobile phone usage which linked directly to recent issues portrayed in the news regarding ‘sexts’, and an increase in ‘prank’ usage of mobile phones in club settings.
Andrea Gellan a member of INCAS swimming club in Fife, swum the English Channel on the 31st July 2009. Andrea set off from Dover at 5am, and 11 hours 35 minutes later she arrived at Cape Gris-Nez in France. Big congratulations to Andrea who is the 2nd fastest (and oldest) Scottish lady to swim the channel!
